Founded March 1, 1995 by John W. Payne (a career salesman) and J. Neil Martin, (a CPA). The two had worked together for 10 years at an industrial and mining supply company, Payne as Vice President of Sales, and Martin as Vice President of Administration.

The two, having developed a unique working relationship and friendship, recognized an opportunity when the supply company was sold in late 1994. They began working on a partnership and then met with John Michael Paz, former owner of Godwin Pumps of America, and secured distribution rights for the Godwin Pump line in the Midwest. Thus, Heartland Pump Rental & Sales, Inc. was born.

The three owners and one mechanic began Heartland Pump Rental & Sales, Inc. with 13 used and 5 new Godwin Dri-Prime, diesel powered trash pumps as the rental fleet. Today, that rental fleet has grown to become the largest in the Midwest, with over 500 diesel and electric powered portable trash pumps, light plants, and generators, with thousands of feet of HDPE pipe, hose, valves, manifolds, road ramps, and many other rental accessories. We serve part of seven states in the Midwest and Tennessee Valley.
